100 words for grown ups week 16

This week, Julia’s  prompt was a picture of a burger (made from paper mache by the looks of it) with the challenge  to write from the point of view of a vegetarian.
Interesting.
Not being a vegetarian this has been a challenge and a half!

If you haven't looked at the 100 word challenge before, where have you been? You will find it at http://jfb57.wordpress.com/2011/10/24/100-word-challenge-for-grown-ups-week-16/

There are already some fab entries, my favourites so far this week are http://dughall.posterous.com/100-word-challenge-for-grown-ups-week16 , http://abgreenteacher.blogspot.com/2011/10/week-16-this-just-gets-more-interesting.html and http://wordpress.sjbteaching.com/wp/?p=627.  It is great fun reading the other entries each week and seeing the variety of interpretations.

Anyway, I digress

So, here goes with my entry- WHY?

Why?
In the 21st century
Why?
Are animals still disrespected?
How?
Caged, over-farmed, pumped with drugs.
So?
Have you not read Animal Farm?
And?
Animals have rights.
Why?
Our future depends on it.
***
What good have these burger chains done?
Why?
Look around you at the litter on our streets
What?
I bet it’s a burger box
It wasn’t me
Turn around, make a better choice.
How?
Choose local. Respect your body.

Why?
Heart disease, cholesterol, obesity
So what?

Choose a different path, make a difference and be free.
How?
Meat free,  guilt free. Why not?

  2. This would make a really great lesson stimulus for a PSHE lesson or similar. Another really different way of viewing the prompt. Love all the questioning words!

  3. That's very generous of you Sally-Jayne; this was a tricky one and I wasn't sure how to approach it; writing from a perspective I'm unfamiliar with was not easy.

  4. Loving the argument featuring all the question words! Well done Anna. Getting stronger every time.

  5. That's a great idea Lynda; as I teach in primary this isn't an area that comes up for debate that often; but I know there are one or two children in my class who are vegetarian, so maybe something to consider.

  6. Thanks Alison. Isn't it interesting to see how differently the same prompt is interpreted? Makes the idea of a "one fits all " curriculum ever more incongruous!

  7. This is phenomenal, Anna! Really powerful writing. The questions are very provoking and ensure more than a cursory read.

Great stuff - and thanks for linking to my (much more light-hearted) effort.

  8. Thank you Dughall. Wanted to break away from narrative this time.

  9. I enjoyed this Anna. As you say very difficult to write from a perspective that is not yours, buy you did so admirably!
